A mirror can reflect so much more than what’s in front of it. The Compass Rose Mirror tells the origin story of EcoChic Lifestyles, our inspiration and our essence.
EcoChic founder Megan Risdon was walking through an out-of-the-way fishing village in Southeast Asia. The trip was an escape from the corporate humdrum. But rather than retreating to a resort, Megan wanted to get out and experience the place for herself.
Passing boats in the water, families working their livelihoods together, bungalows lining the shore, Megan’s eye caught the reflection of a colorful mirror displayed on someone’s home. Inquiring more closely, she learned that many decorative pieces are crafted from reclaimed fishing boat wood in an ingenious and eco-friendly response to the effects of time and weather.
The Compass Rose Mirror carries the spirit of that original mirror, which sparked Megan’s vision for EcoChic. The name Compass Rose evokes the navigations of fishing boat fleets as well as the global nature of every piece we create. The circular frame combines hand-cut wedges from many different vessels into an intricately fitted pattern. The solid wood construction provides a dependable setting for the reflective glass.
And like that mirror hanging on a beach bungalow, the Compass Rose Mirror is perfect for outdoor as well as indoor use because of its marine-grade teak. The water-resistant reclaimed wood doesn’t mind a shower now and then.
